New series of shell-limestone wall sculptures

October 2020 – Dieter Kränzlein has created a new body of work for our gallery, consisting of a dozen unique shell-limestone wall sculptures measuring 15×15 cm each. Each wall sculpture has its own appearance, rough or smooth finished, organic or geometric patterned, ink-coloured or just the plain stone colour.

These small wall sculptures work very well both as individual pieces or as an assembly of two or more, with a horizontal or vertical orientation or in a square or rectangular composition. Please send us an email to receive a listing of all currently available pieces.

Large Eliza Kopec paintings now on 1stDibs

September 2020 – Since the start of our participation in the 1stDibs platform we have successfully featured many art works by Polish-Dutch artist Eliza Kopec, including her famous handmade paper reliefs, older small size paintings and her newest body of work consisting of epoxy resin based 3D wall sculptures. Shipping her larger paintings around the globe being a logistics challenge that we have now solved, we are very happy to announce that the first series of her 110×110 cm and 150×110 cm sized paintings are now also available on 1stDibs. Included in this first series of paintings is her most recent 150×110 cm masterpiece “Society of Colours”, made up of 16,500 hand painted 1 centimeter multi-coloured squares. Check it out on 1stdibs.com/dealers/gallery40nl

Asian interest in abstract artworks

August 2020 – Following promotion in Asian countries by our partner 1stDibs (the world’s leading marketplace for the world’s most beautiful things), we are very happy to see the first works from our gallery being delivered to patrons farthest away so far. A brand new, naturel coloured wooden relief by Hanneke Rijks was delivered to an art lover in Singapore to decorate her stylish bathroom. And a unique grey anthracite wooden relief with glass and gold leaf elements by Olivier Julia was delivered last month to a new buyer in Shenzhen China. Another milestone reached, after having brought numerous works from our artists to collectors in Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East!

Pareja-series: sculptures by Eduardo Lacoma

July 2020 – It has been a little while since his previous body of work was presented, and we are therefore very proud to show the first sculptures of his latest sculpture series titled Pareja, Spanish for Couple. The sculptures consist of two handmade constructions from cut, welded and polished steel, that are mounted together to form true complementary couples. The outer elements are made of 5 mm carbon steel which has been varnished, the inner elements are made of 5 mm corten steel which has been oxidized. Due to the manual process of building and finishing, each element has its own characteristic look, sometimes very smooth, sometimes a little rough but always very sophisticated. Each sculpture in this series is a unique piece!

New Rogan Brown paper reliefs now available

June 2020 – Rogan Brown’s hand and laser cut paper reliefs are sought after around the world and are usually available for short periods of time only, due to high demand from avid art collectors. We have been able to secure a few of his famous 74×74 cm Magic Circle reliefs and one special 100×98 cm work titled Cytokinesis, all originally scheduled to be presented during our spring and summer art fairs.

Due to the Covid19 induced changes to our fair schedule, these works are now available at the gallery and might be on show later this year at the fall and winter art fairs, if still available. If you are interested in all our currently available works by Rogan then please send us an email for more images.

Garden sculptures and art fair collection

May 2020 – This month our original event calender included the annual Gallery Art Salon with Sculpture Garden Exhibition. Due to the Covid-19 situation we are bound to cancel this event, as it is not possible to host a large group of art lovers. This is all the more regretful as we currently have a stock of truly amazing works that were all made for the art fairs that were unfortunately cancelled as well. To offset this situation, until mid-July we offer individuals and small one-household groups the possibility to visit our gallery and sculpture garden and enjoy the beautiful works from our artists in a totally private setting. And of course we will fully adhere to the national sanitary measure guidelines including social distancing. Please contact us by phone or email to book a time slot for your visit!

Corona-virus: upcoming art fairs cancelled

March/April 2020 – The corona-virus pandemic is tightening its grip on the world and is having a big impact on numerous large events including art fairs. The premature closing of the international art fair TEFAF was the first sign of what could happen to indoor events with large numbers of visitors. In the aftermath of the TEFAF situation many art fairs now have been either postponed or even totally cancelled. This includes three art fairs on our spring and summer schedule, being the Affordable Art Fair Brussels (March), Art Lausanne (April/May) and Art Laren (June). These fairs are now all scheduled to possibly take place in September of this year, depending on how the pandemic will develop. Further information to follow.

Success for gallery portfolio at Art Karlsruhe

February 2020 – The 2020 edition of Art Karlsruhe was a great success for many of our artists and consequently for our gallery. During the five days of this renowned German art fair our stand was regularly packed with interested visitors and we are very happy that we were able to engage with many of them. The opening night already brought numerous experienced art lovers and collectors into our stand which promissed a successful launch of our gallery’s portfolio. During the following days and in particular during the weekend many art works on show found their way to new homes, including a large wood painting relief by Vaughn Horsman, a brand new outdoor steel sculpture by Olivier Julia, several glass reliefs by Freddie Michael Soethout and a number of paper reliefs by Eliza Kopec.

Dutch artist Hanneke Rijks joins Gallery40NL

January 2020 – We are very happy to announce our cooperation with Dutch visual artist Hanneke Rijks. Hanneke originally studied mathematics but then made a u-turn to become a furniture conservator and restorer. Having worked with wood for many years she decided to combine her interest in mathematics with her woodworking skills, and in 2014 an artist was born. Often the objects she makes are of a pure geometric nature, but occasionally she uses a visual language that reflects on elements of the real world. Hanneke’s work will be introduced to our international collectors at the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels in March and thereafter at various other European art fairs.

Freddie M. Soethout – new Farbenlichthaut works

December 2019 – German artist Freddie Michael Soethout is very well known for his amazing pigmented silicon glass reliefs and objects. In particular his Farbenlichthaut-series has received worldwide acclaim, resulting in numerous solo and group exhibitions, most recently in New York.

With his newest additions Farbenlichthaut 150-155 he has further explored the dynamics of the colour-changing effects in his work incorporating totally new colour-schemes. We are proud to be chosen as his launching gallery for these new works which we will introduce at the Luxembourg Art Fair this month and following on from that at Art Karlsruhe in February 2020!

Solo exhibition Olivier Julia – 40 years of art

November 2019 – From December 1-21 the beautiful venue of art foundation Hazart in Soest, The Netherlands, will host a solo exhibition by one of our most valued artists Olivier Julia. An amazing presentation of 40 years of hard work, showing early graphic work, drawings, painted panels, wood reliefs and objects including his most recent large scale corten steel sculptures.

During this exhibition his new limited edition 200 page full-colour monography – published by Nijstad & Beumkes – will be available for sale at a reduced price. We strongly recommend visiting this exhibition to all art lovers of geometric abstract art!

Gallery40NL exhibits at Art Karlsruhe 2020

October 2019 – We are happy to announce our presence next year from 12-16 February at the Art Karlsruhe 2020 contemporary and classic modern art fair. The fair’s Advisory Board has selected our gallery for the impressive roster of 200 German and international exhibitors. Following Berlin and Hamburg we are looking forward to reach out to new art lovers and collectors visiting this important international art fair in the south-west of Germany. As usual, we will show at our stand an exciting collection of contemporary modern abstract geometric and organic art by well-established Dutch and European artists.

Paper jewelry objects by Nel Linssen (1935-2016)

September 2019 – During her life, Nel Linssen gained global recognition for her paper objects. Museums with her work include the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Victoria & Albert Museum London, the Hermitage St. Petersburg, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum New York and the National Gallery of Victoria Melbourne. We now present to you a private collection of her work that was put together between 1995 and 2010. All works are in mint condition and come in the original boxes from the artist’s studio. The objects can be worn as necklaces or bracelets, but they can also be displayed as art objects on side tables, small art shelves or even in treasure cabinets. Her objects are best known for the endlessly changing colours, caused by both change of perspective as well as manipulation of its shape.

New gallery artist: Rob Zweerman, sculptor

August 2019 – Rob Zweerman’s sculptures made from stone and steel already have a prominent place in our sculpture garden. His works will now be included too in our selection for the art fairs in Stockholm, Amsterdam and Hamburg. Rob originally graduated as an industrial designer and that is reflected in his work. His sculptures are a search for the combination of material and form. He learns while working and always finds new elements that he can use in every new sculpture. Sometimes the material is a means and sometimes it is a starting point. His sculptures are geometric masterpieces, abstract art with unparalleled contours, shapes blending together and surprising views.

Next stop New York, city that never sleeps

July 2019 – This year we see increasing interest from collectors and art lovers based in the USA in the abstract geometric and organic works made by our artists. We are therefore very happy that the selection committee has confirmed our first participation in the Affordable Art Fair New York. From September 25-29 we will exhibit at the Metropolitan Pavilion on 18th Street in Chelsea. For this first participation we will bring our finest European contemporary modern abstract art by Kate Brett, Vaughn Horsman, Olivier Julia, Let de Kok, Eliza Kopec, Haringa + Olijve and Freddie Soethout. We look forward to introduce you to our artists at stand no. C12! (photo credit Todd Quackenbush)

10 years contemporary modern abstract art

June 2019 – To mark our 10th gallery anniversary we asked Wendy Wezendonk (Studio Wezendonk) to design a limited edition art book showcasing our artists, documenting our achievements and honouring our collectors. This has resulted in over 120 pages with nearly 200 images of art works, events and other special moments of the last 10 years. Contributions by various art professionals and collectors provide further background on our gallery and on private art collecting in general. Full colour printed by Wilco Art Books on three different types of paper, the result is extraordinary and makes us very proud! The book is published under ISBN 978-90-828635-1-2.

Gallery40NL opens new sculpture garden

June 2019 – We started this project over a year ago, after the devastating storm in January 2018. In this period we rescaped the plot behind our gallery and planted hundreds of ground covering plants and dozens of mostly native trees and shrubbery. It will take a lot of patience (and water) to see all this grow into the tiny forest we strive to create, but it already forms a great backdrop for a few dozen small and medium sized abstract sculptures by Dutch artists Olivier Julia, Haringa + Olijve, Carl Möller, Henk van Putten, Roland de Jong Orlando, Rob Zweerman and Coen Vernooij. Outside exhibitions the sculpture garden can be visited by appointment.

Dieter Kränzlein joins Gallery40NL

May 2019 – We are happy to announce the cooperation between German artist Dieter Kränzlein and our gallery. Dieter has an outstanding international reputation and is well known for his abstract sculptures made of marble, limestone and resin, and also for his stone based prints. Besides a strong collector base in Germany and Switzerland, his work has been exhibited at renowned art fairs in Europe, the USA and Australia. Dieter’s work will be presented by us in gallery exhibitions and at national and international art fairs. To start with, his work can be seen at our upcoming anniversary exhibition and after the summer break at art fairs in Stockholm, Amsterdam and Hamburg.

Gallery40NL at the Lausanne Art Fair, Switzerland

April 2019 – As a next step in our international outreach our gallery will participate next month in the Lausanne Art Fair in Switzerland. The third edition of this contemporary art fair returns in May to the Expo Beaulieu in the centre of Lausanne, reaching out to art lovers and collectors in Switzerland, Italy and France. As usual, we will bring an exciting collection of contemporary modern abstract geometric and organic art by predominantly Dutch and European artists.

The fair takes place from 2-5 May and we look forward to introduce you to our artists at stand no. 31!

Solo show Freddie Soethout at KunstRAI 2019

March 2019 – We are happy to announce a spectacular solo presentation by Freddie Michael Soethout at the upcoming KunstRAI 2019 art fair. His presentation will star a brand new 250 cm free standing sculptural glass installation named Welle (wave) and a 300×150 cm large wall installation named Der Kuss der Schlangenfrau (kiss of the snake woman). Besides these two eye-catching works, other works by the artist exploring new visual vocabularies will be on show as well (image on the left is of a previous exhibition). Apart from the solo presentation by Freddie we will be present with the usual group presentation of selected artists. This year, the fair takes place from 17-22 April at the well known RAI venue in Amsterdam. You will find us at stand no. 25!

Gallery40NL celebrates 10-year anniversary

January 2019 – This year our gallery proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary! In the past ten years we have introduced dozens of new artists to art lovers all over Europe. Our portfolio has developed over the years into a very cohesive contemporary collection of both abstract geometric concrete art as well as more organic nature inspired abstract art. We have been and will continue to be focussed on art works with a three-dimensional character and a high level of craftmanship.

2019 will be marked by a number of special events, including introduction of new artists, an anniversary exhibition and of course the official opening in June of our sculpture garden!

All art works except the first two are one of a kind and are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Brass miniatures by Henk van Putten

November 2018 – We are proud to announce that renowned Dutch artist Henk van Putten has chosen our gallery to exclusively launch his new solid brass miniature series. Henk’s well known work consists of both small and very large scale indoor and outdoor geometric sculptures and his work is part of many public and private collections in The Netherlands and abroad. He has recently decided to recreate all the important sculpture designs he has ever made in a small solid brass miniature version, each in a limited edition.

Introduction Série architectural Olivier Julia

November 2018 – French-Dutch artist Olivier Julia has worked very hard this summer to finish a new body of work, on time for the introduction at the international autumn art fairs our gallery has signed up for. The Série architectural currently consists of two free standing sculptures (Equilibre and Cube architectural) and six wall hanging sculptures (Carré architectural). All sculptures are made of wood (mdf) and finished with the characteristic dark grey with bronze acrylic paint and a final coating. The sizes of these sculptures range from 15x15x10 cm to 25x15x15 cm and come in editions of 15. The Série architectural is a continuation of his earlier minimalistic bodies of work and although small in size the works are great in presence!

New website www.gallery40.nl

October 2018 – Simultaneous with the introduction of our new gallery name Gallery40NL we are proud to introduce our new website www.gallery40.nl which does much better justice to our current activities. There is more detailed information on the art fairs we participate in, as well as more information on other events such as upcoming exhibitions. Furthermore we have improved the news message area and we are highlighting some of our art projects. And last but not least our new website is now fully platform proof which means that the information is optimised for desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone!

Galerie NUMMER40 becomes Gallery40NL

October 2018 – From now on the gallery will go by its new name Gallery40NL, or Gallery40 in everyday speech! Nearly 10 years have gone by since the start of our gallery in 2009. The name giver of the gallery was the big number 40, painted on the front facade of what is now our gallery and home. But originally this big painted number 40 has been a local landmark since the early ’60s when the house was designed and built by Dutch architect Alexander Giesen for his own family.

Symetria Orca finds new home

August 2018 – At Eliza Kopec’ recent solo exhibition “(in)visible beauty” her largest geometric paper relief to date – called Symetria Orca and measuring 223×87 cm – attracted lots of attention. Notwithstanding the great artistic quality and visual appreciation of the work, the sheer size of it made it a not-for-every-home showpiece. Fortunately a Dutch private collector’s couple was able to find a suitable spot for this marvelous art work where it now is looked at in all its glory on a daily basis. We are very happy that the Orca has finally found a new permanent home!

Galerie NUMMER40 at Art on Paper Amsterdam

July 2018 – Our gallery will be one of the 30 selected galleries participating in the new thematic art fair Art on Paper Amsterdam. The new fair will concentrate on work on paper by the presented artists. Work on paper, whether it be pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor, gouache or collage, often shows the artist in the most spontaneous and artistically free moment. The directness that is connected with this medium brings artist and viewer closer together. In their intimacy and vulnerability, works on paper thrive well with the exclusive attention they receive at a specialized art fair. The fair takes place in the industrial-monumental Zuiveringshal at the Westergasfabriek from 13-16 September 2018.

6th AAF Hamburg participation confirmed

July 2018 – We are happy to announce that the AAF Hamburg selection committee has confirmed our 6th consecutive participation in the fair. During the previous years our gallery has gained a good reputation with the art lovers and collectors in northern Germany. We are looking forward to return after our last year’s “Hamburg Anniversary” and aim to present an even finer selection of abstract geometric and organic art works to the nearly 20.000 visitors than ever before! This year AAF Hamburg will take place from 14-18 November.

Monography Eliza Kopec

June 2018 – Our gallery presents a new monography on Polish-Dutch visual artist Eliza Kopec. She is very well known for her hand cut geometric paper reliefs and her large abstract geometric paintings that by now have found their way to numerous art lovers and collections inside and outside Europe. With texts (Dutch and English) by Carijn Oomkens (Tekst & Regel) and photography and a superb design by Wendy Wezendonk (Studio Wezendonk), the 54 pages full colour monography offers an interesting view on the artist and her thoughts about her art. ISBN 978-90-828635-0-5

Sculpture garden in the make

April 2018 – Works to create a dedicated gallery sculpture garden have started. The devastating January 2018 storm brought down many of our large 40-60 years old trees and rescaping of the plot was necessary anyway. We decided to turn this into an opportunity and are now converting nearly 1.000 square meters into what should become a mini forest for small and medium sized outdoor sculptures and installations. Hidden from immediate views by dense underbrush and newly planted trees, the mini forest will eventually harbour a few dozen works by selected (inter)national artists. Expected opening will be summer 2019.

Minotti selects Galerie NUMMER40 art works

March 2018 – Following our well received first participation in the AAF Milan art fair, we were contacted on behalf of the renowned Minotti design furniture company to showcase works by a selection of our artists at the Salone del Mobile 2018. In close cooperation with Minotti, sculptural objects by Dutch artists Carl Möller and Haringa+Olijve and South-African artist Ian Garrett were selected and incorporated in the Minotti presentation from 17-22 April 2018. All our artists were exclusively credited for their participation in the Salone del Mobile publication of the company.

Galerie NUMMER40 returns to KunstRAI Amsterdam

February 2018 – We are happy to announce our second participation in the renowned Dutch art fair KunstRAI after a succesfull first showing last year. Besides the usual group presentation of our selected artists, the stand will this year’s edition also include a dedicated solo presentation of Polish-Dutch artist Eliza Kopec, especially highlighting her abstract geometric paintings. The fair takes this year place from 4-8 April at the well known RAI venue in Amsterdam.

Petra Benndorff joins Galerie NUMMER40

January 2018 – We are happy to announce the cooperation between German artist Petra Benndorf and our gallery. Petra Benndorf is a well known ceramic artist who has created a very distinct and personal style with her unique porcelain and stoneware objects. Petra’s work will be presented for the first time at our Art Salon in February and after that at art fairs in Brussels and London and later this year at the regularly scheduled group exhibitions and other national and international art fairs.
